When trying to see how fast the new chips from Apple are, most of the tests and benchmarks are focused on video creation and massive 3D tasks.
I made a small comparison to have an idea of the iteration time when developing iOS apps in Xcode. Say you're making a change and you want to see the result on the preview canvas.
This test was repeated a few times with similar results. The Xcode project was also the same. The two machines were:
- M1 MacBook Air with 16 GB of unified memory (21.34 seconds).
- M2 Max MacBook Pro with 32 GB of unified memory (1.38 seconds).
As you can see, there's a massive difference between them, roughly 10x. You can see the test running below (Click to load the video. Size: 1.8 MB):
